On January 28th, a sea-rail intermodal train loaded with 100 TEU of cargo whistled out from Yiwu West Station in Zhejiang, heading for Ningbo Zhoushan Port. It is reported that this special train is the first sea-rail intermodal service from Yiwu Railway Port to Ningbo Zhoushan Port via the Ningbo-Jinhua railway corridor, with a transportation time reduced by about 2 hours compared to the past.
Previously, the sea-rail intermodal trains dispatched from Yiwu Railway Port to Ningbo Zhoushan Port had to travel via the Zhejiang-Jiangxi line to Xiaoshan Station and then switch to the Xiaoshan-Ningbo line. The entire journey was approximately 324 kilometers long and took about 6 to 8 hours.
To further enhance transportation efficiency, Yiwu International Land Port Group has collaborated with railway and other relevant departments. Taking the opening of the Yiwu (Suxi) International Hub Port Train Inspection Station as an opportunity, they have restructured the Yiwu sea-rail intermodal transportation network. The new route has shortened the transportation distance by approximately 70 kilometers, while avoiding issues related to marshalling and detours at small stations. Overall, the number of transportation links has been reduced by more than 50%, effectively improving the turnover efficiency and operational stability of the trains.
It is reported that the line plans to operate three circular trains daily, achieving large-scale and normalized operations, and providing more stable and efficient logistics services for foreign trade enterprises.
Zhejiang first proposed the development of multimodal transport at Ningbo Zhoushan Port in 2004, marking the beginning of the development of rail-water intermodal transport. Today, the sea-rail intermodal route from Yiwu to Ningbo Zhoushan Port has become the largest rail-water intermodal transport corridor in Zhejiang Province in terms of traffic volume.
