Dai Shangxian, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Center and former Swiss Ambassador to China, recently stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that in the current international economic and trade environment facing greater uncertainty, Swiss companies are accelerating their market diversification layout, and the importance of the Chinese market is becoming more prominent.
Dai Shangxian said that the previous high tariffs imposed by the United States on Switzerland had a significant impact on our export-oriented economy, making the Chinese market even more important. The overall Chinese market maintains rapid growth and remains one of the main destinations for Swiss products, especially in high-end medical manufacturing and other fields
The recent survey results released by the Swiss Center show that Swiss companies have a strong willingness to invest in China, with nearly half of the surveyed companies listing China as one of the top three investment priority markets.
Dai Shangxian specifically mentioned the potential for cooperation between Switzerland and China in the fields of sustainable development and innovation. In recent years, the Chinese government has vigorously promoted the development of environmental protection and clean energy industries, while Switzerland is at the forefront of global innovation and green development. The "2025 Global Innovation Index Report" released by the World Intellectual Property Organization shows that Switzerland has ranked first for 15 consecutive years, and China has also entered the top ten for the first time this year.
He said, "We hope that more Swiss innovation achievements can take root and sprout in China." By promoting green development and technological innovation, the two countries can form a "new common bond," which is not only beneficial to the bilateral economy but also to global sustainable development.
2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland. Dai Shangxian stated that in the past few decades, the "quality" of Switzerland China relations has continuously improved, and the foundation of mutual trust has become more solid.
The Swiss Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Swiss companies in conducting business in China. Dai Shangxian recalled that during his tenure as Ambassador to China, he participated in the preparation of the Swiss exhibition area for the first China International Import Expo. It was that experience that strengthened his confidence in promoting economic and trade exchanges between Switzerland and China. Later, he chose to join the Swiss Center to continue promoting economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Swiss Center, which has helped over 500 Swiss companies enter the Chinese market.
According to him, the Swiss Center has participated in the CIIE for 8 consecutive years and continuously expanded the scale and influence of the Swiss exhibition hall. This year, the number of Swiss companies participating and the exhibition area organized by the Swiss Center have reached a new high in history.
Dai Shangxian believes that the CIIE is an important platform for Swiss companies to enter the Chinese market, injecting sustained momentum into deepening economic and trade cooperation between Switzerland and China. All overseas exhibitors can find potential partners through this platform.
