According to data, as of June this year, over 9000 Chinese companies have been registered in Russia. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China Russia economic and trade cooperation maintains a good momentum, and business exchanges are becoming increasingly close. Chinese companies are optimistic about the development prospects of the Russian market, constantly seizing opportunities to meet the growing domestic demand in Russia, creating more job opportunities, and supporting the socio-economic development of Russia. The upgraded version of the China Russia Investment Protection Agreement signed in May this year is beneficial for both the government and enterprises. We believe that the continuously improving business environment will attract more Chinese companies to start businesses and develop in Russia.
03 China Russia trade remains stable with progress
From January to June this year, the bilateral trade volume between China and Russia reached 116.87 billion US dollars, an increase of 1.8% compared to the same period last year. Despite facing complex and severe external situations, the overall trade between China and Russia has remained stable, and its value has further increased. Both sides will continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation, tap into the potential of cooperation, and ensure steady progress in bilateral trade.
04 Cooperation on Arctic Navigation Channel Development
By the end of 2024, the freight volume of Chinese enterprises through the Arctic shipping route has nearly doubled. The development of the Arctic shipping route has significant strategic importance, and China and Russia actively engage in cooperation in shipping route development. In 2024, the competent authorities of the two countries will establish the Arctic Shipping Cooperation Subcommittee and hold its first meeting to agree on the target of shipping volume in the shipping route. Both sides will implement relevant consensus and further promote cooperation in waterway development.
05 China Russia natural gas cooperation steadily advances
The cooperation between China and Russia in the field of natural gas is smooth. From January to May 2025, China imported 16.14 billion cubic meters of pipeline gas from Russia, a year-on-year increase of 29.4%. The China Russia East Gas Pipeline project is operating smoothly and will achieve full transmission this year. At present, the competent authorities of both sides are conducting negotiations on the "Siberian Power 2" natural gas pipeline project.
